Fab Five: Melissa Currado

Each newsletter, we will be featuring one or two of NYCON's staff so that you can put a face to a name and get to know a little bit more about your friends at NYCON by asking them FIVE, FABULOUS questions.  In this newsletter we are featuring our Director of Corporate Affairs & Internal Communications, Melissa Currado.

1) Hi Melissa!  Thanks for taking time to let our NYCON membership get to know you a little better.  How long have you been at NYCON and how did you get to your current role at NYCON?

Wow, time flies – I’ve been with NYCON for 12 ½ years. I started as the Membership & Events Coordinator in 2005 and then progressed to Executive Assistant to the CEO in 2017; first person to fill the new position. I was recently promoted in September to Director of Corporate Affairs & Internal Communications.

2) What’s been one of your favorite events that NYCON has hosted that you’ve been a part of?

I might be partial,  but I’d have to say our most recent event celebrating NYCON’s 90th Birthday, extraordinary history and our fabulous members that have been with us over the years. It was an evening of mystery, elegance, laughter and reminiscing - and I was so proud and honored to be a part of such a wonderful celebration. We use to host these lovely Holiday Parties too during December – the Manor decorated for the season, everyone dressed up, piano & caroling – it was a sight!

3) Is there something that NYCON members may not know about NYCON that maybe they don’t already know?

Hmmm, tricky. Our corporate headquarters (in Menands) is listed on the National & State Historic registries. Some staff get frequent visits from our “spirited” guests. Anyone want to come visit?!

4) What’s one thing you are REALLY looking forward to in 2018 (personal or professional)?

Can I list several things? ;-) There seems to be so much happening. I’m looking forward to the remaining classes of the Leadership Tech Valley Program, volunteering on another board , as well as finding that balance to have family time and build my Events business. Oh, and definitely a vacation! Planning a trip to Disney before our 7 (soon to be 8) year old grows up too quickly.

5) So the one question that everyone is getting asked, what is your favorite TV Show or Movie?

Hmmm, I’m a big fan of Fixer Upper and the Baking or Cooking Competitions. You’ll usually find my TV on the HGTV or Foodnetwork channel, when my daughter hasn’t taken it over with the Disney channels.

Awesome, thanks for your time Melissa!  One last thing, how can NYCON members get a hold of you?
