BU 911 Study
9/12/2008

252 non-profit organizations were created to offer different forms of relief after the September 11th terrorist attacks.
However, only a fraction lasted.
That was just one of the findings of a recent study done by Binghamton University Professor David Campbell, who lived in New York and worked for a non-profit there when the tragedy happened. David Campbell says, "The few that endured were the ones that had the closest connection with those that died on 9-11. They were organizations created by people who were families of them that died on 9-11 and organizations that were created by employers whose employees died on 9-11 and had offices in the World Trade Centers."
The organizations that didn't last accomplished their goals over a short time and raised about 700 million dollars for relief.
Campbell also says the study's findings could be used to assist area planners if there is another flood on how they should coordinate relief efforts.
