Southern Tier Capacity Building Program Resources

A series of free trainings for nonprofits will be offered in 2015. Participants who attend a training will qualify to apply for the Southern Tier Capacity Building Program, which includes the Mini-Grant Program, Assessment Program and new Strategic Reengineering Program.

These resources are supported by United Way of Broome County, The Stewart W. and Willma C. Hoyt Foundation, The Community Foundation for South Central New York, Conrad and Virginia Klee Foundation, and George A. and Margaret Mee Charitable Foundation.

Broome Leadership Institute

  • Since 1988, BLI has offered a six month community leadership training program for adult professionals.
  • BLI fosters a network of leaders who are committed to understanding and improving the quality of life in our region.
  • ach BLI class is comprised of 20 selected candidates that reflect the diversity of the community and represent a cross section of business, government, education and non-profit organizations. Participants meet from September through March and gain an increased understanding and awareness of various industries and issues within our community.

With about 500 graduates, BLI gives back by:

  • Offering the BLI Scholarship Fund to non-profit organizations and small businesses that can’t afford to participate in BLI.
  • Hosting annual community services fairs and providing half day training programs for local non-profits.
  • Organizing regular alumni events to high light our community.
  • Providing a pool of qualified board members and volunteers for local non-profits.
  • Meeting our community’s needs through group community service projects.

NYCON develops and promotes an effective and vibrant charitable nonprofit community throughout New York State.  We strengthen organizational capacity, act as an advocate and unifying voice, help to inform philanthropic giving, and conduct research and planning to demonstrate relevance and impact.
