What Nonprofit Executives and Board Members Need to Know About Nonprofit Accounting (Part 1)
Basic Nonprofit Accounting Track (BAS)
10:00am-11:30am
Allen L. Fetterman, CPA
Accounting and financial reporting by nonprofit entities differs from that for commercial entities. In this session, always a popular one at Camp Finance, you will learn, from a nationally known speaker, all about these differences, including accounting for contributions, donor restrictions, in-kind donations, endowment funds, functional expense reporting, and many other topics. This two-part session provides an excellent overview for those new to the nonprofit sector and executive and board members who need “the basics” or Campers who want a refresher.

Strategic Partnerships in COVID-19 Era Nonprofit Landscape
Accountability & Compliance Track (ACC)
12:30pm-2:00pm
Doug Sauer, CEO, NYCON
Over the past year or so, before COVID19, there was a noticeable rise in nonprofits looking beyond “soft” collaborative strategies (sharing information, coordinating activities and services and non-binding good faith MOUs) to mergers, affiliations and substantive shared services. This interest was often driven by the desire for longer-term sustainability in what was seen as a rapidly changing demographic, policy, and technological environment. Little did we know what a truly rapidly changing landscape could be. The pandemic and the resulting economic crisis has now elevated corporate restructuring options including the very real possibility of insolvency for some as a strategic, if not urgent necessity for many. This session will explore the factors, dimensions and impact of our changing and very uncertain nonprofit corporate landscape, what it means for those seeking restructuring solutions, what the core models are, and what state regulatory changes are needed to support our sector’s efforts in this regard.

Brain Break
2:00pm-2:15pm

Major Gift Fundraising in a Post-COVID World
Marketing, Communications, and Fundraising Track (MCF)
2:15pm-4:00pm
Michael Stein, Member, Constellation Advancement
The Coronavirus pandemic and the resulting economic slowdown will have long term implications on our work with donors over the next 12-18 months, at the very least. In order to continue to cultivate, steward and solicit major donors and prospects in the most efficient and effective manner, we will need to develop new techniques which are far less reliant on traditional face to face visits, and which acknowledge the uncertainty our donors are experiencing during this unprecedented period. This session will present a series of tactics and strategies for development professionals to consider as they engage donors in the face of new and emerging realities.

Board Recruitment in the COVID Era: Using Social Media to Create Connections and Candidates
Nonprofit Governance Track (GOV)
4:00pm-5:30pm
Nonprofit Panel Discussion Moderated by Andrew Marietta, VP of Regional Development, NYCON
Molly Anderson, Executive Director, Center for Leadership and Organizational Effectiveness in the School of Management at University at Buffalo
Lisa Blackwell, Board President, Temple Concord (and Kilmer Mansion restoration project)
Dale Capristo, Board Member, Oneonta Community Health Center
Carole Coppens- Executive Director, YWCA of Binghamton / Broome County
Finding board members has always been a challenge, and with COVID-19 resulting in the elimination of in-person networking and outreach efforts, the problem has only intensified. For many nonprofits, the default has been a holding pattern on recruiting new board members, but there is a great opportunity presented now in a world forced to interact primarily online. Nonprofit organizations are seeing significant increases in social media engagement, and it is this newfound visibility and awareness that can create connections to new board candidates. Join the discussion, hear about real world examples from a nonprofit panel, and learn more about how you can make the most of social media to benefit your board.
