This session will providean introduction on how to assess a nonprofit’s financial condition and needs with a particular focus on risk assessment during uncertain times.We will also conduct a high-level review of the various financial impacts the pandemic hashad on nonprofits to date, potential sources of ongoing risk as organizations look to reopen, and considerations for the roles of management and board in financial oversight.

This webinar is open to organizations in Columbia, Dutchess, Greene, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester Counties. It is recommended for each organization to send at least 1 staff and 1 board member to attend.

Phil Rosenbloom has extensive experience helping mission-focused organizations develop sound financial strategies. Through rigorous analysis and collaborative communication, he helps clients build data-grounded consensus on their financial condition and plan proactively to achieve their goals.

Phil honed his financial analysis and consulting skills as Manager of Advisory Services for Nonprofit Finance Fund’s New York Program, where he was responsible for leading client engagements, facilitating workshops, and managing technical assistance initiatives and funder relationships.

In 2015, Phil launched Tarn Consulting as an independent practice serving nonprofits and grantmakers. Through Tarn, Phil has worked with a wide range of nonprofit clients to conduct financial health and fiscal infrastructure analyses, generate financial projections, and create tools, reports, and policies for ongoing financial management. He has facilitated strategic and business planning processes, served as an outsourced CFO, and worked with nonprofit boards and finance committees to implement effectivefinancial oversight practices.

He has experience across sectors including health and human services, performing arts, education,and environmental and social justice advocacy. His clients range from fiscally-sponsored start-ups to longstanding institutions with annual budgets exceeding $50MM.

He has also worked with philanthropic institutions to incorporate financial due diligence into their grantmaking practice, evaluated sustainability-focused grantmaking programs, managed cohort-based technical assistance initiatives, and advised on developing and implementing data platforms for nonprofit assessment.

Phil holds a BA in Sociology from Oberlin College and an interdisciplinary MA from New York University. He has served as board treasurer for the Poughkeepsie Farm Project and for Community Family Development, a nonprofit childcare center.
