Maximizing the Effectiveness and Efficiency of Your Committees

Forming committees – smaller groups of board members responsible for overseeing certain areas of work – can be an effective and efficient way of engaging your board, putting directors’ skills to good use, and accomplishing better results. Too many or the wrong type of committees can sap organizational energies and frustrate all involved. Effective committees on the other hand, require clear mandates, strong leadership, and adequate support and resources.

In this session we will discuss the purpose, structure, and creation of effective committees – critical to your board governance - and how you can sustain them as well as use committees to develop board leadership. You will also learn about the importance of defining and communicating the roles of board and staff members in different types of committees.
