NYS Assembly Bill A1237 Signed into Law

New York State Governor Kathy Hochul has just signed into law NYS Assembly bill A1237 which modifies the not-for-profit corporation law (and also the business corporation and religious corporation law) to allow for more board and committee work to be conducted electronically. NYCON was a champion of this bill, as it was a necessary modification during the pandemic, and continues to be highly advantageous as more nonprfit organizations are relying on technology to conduct board meetings. Expanding the abilities of boards to conduct themselves via virtual platforms also expands the geographic reach that nonprofits have to engage and retain board talent.
