NYCON Statement on Diversity and Inclusion

inclusivity

The New York Council of Nonprofits (NYCON) works together with our members and funders to enrich communities by building the capacity of nonprofits through services and advocacy. Our mission is most fulfilled through a commitment to diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion as a core value and practice.

Building and sustaining diversity requires an ongoing commitment that must find full expression in organizational culture, values, and behaviors. Throughout NYCON's work, we support diversity across all differences, including age, economics, ethnicity, sex, race, disability status, religion, sexual orientation, and gender identity/expression. We aim to be a model of inclusion.

NYCON recognizes that our effectiveness will be enhanced and our mission well served when the practice of inclusion is reflected in all aspects of organizations:

  • Board Membership: Our Board of Directors reflects the rich diversity of our state and the 501c3 nonprofit sector.
  • Programming: We develop programs with respect for our rich diversity of cultures and prioritize accessibility for all. We listen to and learn from the NYCON board, affiliates, members, and funders to ensure our programs reflect our mission, deliver impact, and embrace inclusivity.
  • Policies and Procedures: Our commitment to inclusiveness is evident in our policies and procedures, our strategic plan and organizational goals.
  • Employment: Our staffing is reflective of the diversity in the communities we serve. Associated recruitment and hiring practices reflect our commitment to inclusion and accessibility. We foster a workplace that respects each individual and seeks diverse perspectives.
  • Funders and Donors: We share our core value with funders and donors and encourage an embrace of the same values.
