Open Enrollment

NYCON's open enrollment for Group Employee Benefits is January 1st. This is a great time to:

  • Review & update the Member Employer Forms that establish your benefits offering
  • Confirm your Authorized Group Representative’s contact information for billing & enrollment processing purposes
  • Prepare for consistent administration of group employee benefits, eligibility requirements & waiting periods, and premium remittance
  • Provide eligible employees with dental\vision summaries & request the employees complete a life insurance beneficiary designation form
  • Welcome eligible employees to enroll, add\remove dependents, or make changes

Please share our informational flyers (at the top of this page) with staff and remind them that during open enrollment they can enroll in benefits offered and/or make changes to their existing enrollment without the need for a qualifying event.

PARTICIPATION & ENROLLMENT

As a NYCON member, a nonprofit can participate at any time. NYCON’s benefit year is January 1st to December 31st and Open Enrollment is on January 1st. Also, benefit enrollment is possible, when initial eligibility is met, during Open Enrollment, or mid-year with a qualifying event.

Initial Eligibility: Can be due to first-time benefit offering; new employment; or an employment status change. Benefit elections, enrollment forms, and supporting documents should be completed\submitted within 30-days of eligibility being met.

Open Enrollment: Occurs annually and welcomes benefit eligible employees, not previously enrolled. Benefit elections, enrollment forms, and supporting documents should be completed\submitted during open enrollment.

Qualifying Event: Is a Special Enrollment Period due experiencing certain life events. Benefit elections, enrollment forms, and supporting documents should be completed\submitted within 30-days of the qualifying event date. i.e. a loss-of-prior coverage, a change in employment status; open enrollment under another employer, a change in marital status, a dependent ceasing to satisfy eligibility requirements, & etc.

Please keep mind, with the exception of NYCON’s FSA & HRA plans, benefit plans enroll with coverage effective at the 1st of the month following eligibility being met; terminate coverage at the end of the month eligibility is lost; and a monthly adjustment statement and invoice are sent electronically and by USPS.

Employer Tip: Immediately upon employee separation, terminate insurance coverageby emailing the appropriate Plan Administrator the terminating employee's name, benefits that are ending and the last day worked.
