State of the Sector
Each year, NYCON surveys nonprofit leaders across New York to assess the health, challenges, and outlook of the sector. The State of the Sector report provides insights into financial stability, workforce trends, government contracting, service demand, and policy priorities.
The 2026 report highlights the continued strain on nonprofit finances, increasing demand for services, and the urgent need for improvements in government contracting. These findings inform NYCON’s advocacy agenda and are shared directly with policymakers to ensure the nonprofit sector’s voice is heard.

Federal & State Update Emails
NYCON provides regular federal and state policy update emails, keeping nonprofits informed about advocacy opportunities, policy changes, and important resources. NYCON is also a member of the National Council of Nonprofits, which leads legal actions on behalf of nonprofits and regularly updates an executive orders tracker. CEO Megan Allen also serves on the New York State Not-For-Profit Contracting Advisory Committee.
Member Resources
All members receive regular legislative updates through Nonprofit Champion, a newsletter produced by National Council of Nonprofits. In addition, NYCON staff provide education on NYS lobbying requirements and share advocacy opportunities.
