Here is an excerpt from the report's introduction:

The 2020 Compensation & Benefits Profile of Mid-Hudson Valley Nonprofits report has been prepared by the New York Council of Nonprofits, Inc. (NYCON) in partnership and with funding support from the Dyson Foundation and the Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley. This regional report provides survey results from participating charitable nonprofits with employees based out of or located in Columbia, Dutchess, Greene, Orange, Putnam and/or Ulster counties.

The survey was originally intended to be launched in early 2020 in response to a common challenge for nonprofits: providing competitive salaries and benefits that support the recruitment and retention of qualified personnel. Due to the economic and workforce disruption created by the pandemic, the survey was delayed until the last quarter of 2020.

As the nonprofit workforce continues to evolve in the aftermath of COVID-19, nonprofit employers are encouraged to develop new strategies for supporting what has proven to be a tremendously resilient workforce. It is our hope that the information and data provided herein will inform and assist Mid-Hudson Valley Nonprofits in meeting these challenges.

This report presents the methodology, data and findings collected through an online survey conducted in the last quarter of 2020 from 77 community-based nonprofit respondents reporting on 4,127 employees working at least half-time and located (including remote) in the region. The survey gathered three (3) basic types of information: general organizational characteristics; employee benefit offerings and employer contribution policies; and position-based wage and salary information for executive and non-executive employees.

The data collected is represented in 19 charts and tables (figures) and is presented in two (2) sections: Organizational Characteristics and Benefit Offerings, and Salary by Position. Key observations or “take-a-ways” are noted in the report for each of the Organizational Characteristics and Benefit Offerings data presentations. For Salary by Title, specific job titles are analyzed to generate summary statistics, including the average and quartile values (25th, 50th or median, and 75th percentiles). Surveyed organizations were provided a directory of 110 executive and non-executive job titles to choose from. Salary data is not presented for position titles with fewer than five responses, or where all of the reported positions are from one employer. After this screening, data is reported on 49 non executive titles, including combined titles. Appendix A provides a listing of what titles have been combined.
