Primary Responsibilities
- Advance the mission and purpose of NYCON through the following:
- Participate in policy-setting
- Contribute to discussion and decision-making
- Engage in strategic planning, assisting with implementing and monitoring annual goals
- Fiduciary oversight
- Review, sign, and fully adhere to NYCON's code of conduct and conflict of interest policies.
- Be an active member of the Board, including:
- Make every effort to attend at least 75% of five regularly scheduled Board meetings.
- Attend the Annual Meeting each October and Board Retreat each December.
- Actively participate in at least one Board committee.
- Help build an effective Board through recruiting potential Board nominees with professional expertise and reputational capital who can make significant contributions to the work of NYCON.
- Secure financial resources for NYCON. Each Board member will prioritize NYCON in their charitable giving by contributing to the Annual Board Campaign at a personally significant level and engaging in resource development and stewardship efforts.
- Serve as an ambassador and an advocate for NYCON through the following:
- Speak positively of the organization to current and potential stakeholders and constituencies
- Attend and promote NYCON events
- Amplify NYCON content online
Term Details
Board members serve 3-year terms, with no more than 3 consecutive full terms. Board members are elected by Membership at the October Annual Meeting and take their official voting seat on January 1. Board members-elect are expected to attend board meetings and committee meetings between their election and January in a non-voting capacity.
The Board Development Committee presents its slate to NYCON’s membership at the Annual Meeting in October, which historically has been held at Camp Finance, NYCON’s annual financial management conference.
