Albany, NY (February 4, 2019) – The New York Council of Nonprofits, Inc. (NYCON) and its affiliate BoardStrong, Inc. have announced the launch of a comprehensive online Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Assessment tool for nonprofits in the state. The assessment is available through an exclusive partnership with the Michigan Nonprofits Association.

This innovative and tested online assessment tool gathers proven metrics for both board members and staff in three key areas: diversity, equity and inclusion. Participating nonprofits receive an in-depth report that aggregates the data graphically, provides an overall organizational status rating; insights into policy and practices with recommendations for improvement; and, a format for developing an implementation plan along with helpful resource materials.  As an additional service, NYCON has engaged a network of DEI experts who are available to provide customized follow-up support.

“New York’s nonprofits are diverse in mission but we all exist to promote quality of life and make a positive difference.  Our effectiveness and relevance relies on meaningfully representing, engaging and embracing the diverse voices, talents, and segments of our communities,” observed Doug Sauer, CEO of both NYCON and Governance Matters. “Through this initiative and our newly acquired board recruitment site, charitySTRONG.org, we are proactively calling for New York’s nonprofit community, both upstate and downstate, to join us in much needed self-reflection, meaningful dialogue, and actionable organizational change.”

The assessment will be available to nonprofits starting on February 8, 2019. NYCON members can participate in the assessment for half the cost of non-members. Click here for more information and to participate in the assessment.
