NYCON to host virtual boot camp for NYSCA grantee executive directors

The New York Council on Nonprofits (NYCON), NYSCA's partner organization for technical assistance and organizational development, is hosting a virtual Boot Camp for Executive Directors: BEING A SUCCESSFUL EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR LEADERSHIP RETREAT to be held April 20-22, 2022. This program is open to Executive Directors with 5 years or less experience. Priority is given to Executive Directors with organizations that serve communities of color, rural populations, people with disabilities, and other historically underrepresented groups.

The State & Local Partnerships (SLP) program is offering full scholarships for selected NYSCA grantees.

Program Overview
Participants will be introduced, through practical application, to master the diverse skills that are necessary to achieve success in their current role. Led by a multi-disciplinary team of experienced instructors, this retreat emphasizes real-world elements of nonprofit executive leadership, management and problem-solving.

The training will include workshops and trainings as well as invaluable, individual consultations with NYCON's experienced team of industry veterans during or after the retreat. Executives will be able to address both individual issues within their own organization as well as converse with other executive staff regarding their shared experiences and issues.

Attendees will discuss a variety of topics including:

  • Role of the Executive Director
  • Executive Director relationship with the Board of Directors
  • Nonprofit Accounting and Fiscal Accountability
  • Effective Marketing & Messaging Strategies
  • Legal Accountability & Compliance
  • Human Resources Issues and Strategies
  • Grant Writing & other Fund Development Techniques
  • COVID impact issues (ex. PPP loan forgiveness)
