The New York Council of Nonprofits (NYCON) and Nonprofit New York (NPNY) have partnered on the 2026 New York State Nonprofit Compensation Survey—a first-of-its-kind collaboration to gather salary and benefits data from nonprofit organizations across New York.
Your participation will help create a stronger statewide understanding of nonprofit compensation practices while providing your organization with valuable data to support compensation decisions.
Organizations that complete the survey by August 4, 2026 will receive:
- The 2026 New York State Nonprofit Compensation Report at no cost (a $500 value)
- A complimentary Regional Compensation Report, if there is sufficient participation from your region
Why Participate?
Reliable, current compensation data helps nonprofits make informed decisions about salaries and benefits while strengthening the nonprofit sector's understanding of compensation practices across New York.
By participating, your organization can:
- Benchmark compensation against similar organizations by size, region, and mission area.
- Support budgeting and compensation planning with reliable, New York-specific data.
- Inform board and leadership discussions with credible market benchmarks.
- Strengthen recruitment and retention efforts with competitive compensation practices.
Participation is open to all nonprofit organizations across New York State—not just NYCON or Nonprofit New York members. The more organizations that participate, the more accurate and valuable the results will be for the entire nonprofit sector.
What's Included?
The survey collects salary and benefits data for all staff positions—not just Executive Director/CEO roles. To ensure accurate benchmarking, organizations should gather compensation information across their full staff roster before beginning.
Confidentiality
EA Compensation Resources, LLC will independently administer the survey and manage all data collection and analysis. All submitted information will remain strictly confidential. Results will only be reported in aggregated form, and no individual organization will be identified.
How Organizations Use Compensation Data
- Evaluate current salaries and benefits.
- Develop competitive pay ranges for open positions.
- Support annual compensation reviews and budget planning.
- Understand trends in nonprofit workforce costs.
- Build transparency and equity into compensation practices.
