Capacity Building Program for Southern Tier Nonprofit Organizations Launched

Albany, NY – March 22, 2022 – The Community Foundation for South Central New York, Conrad and Virginia Klee Foundation, Steward W. and Willma C. Hoyt Foundation, United Way of Broome County, and New York Council of Nonprofits (NYCON) together have launched the 2022 Southern Tier Capacity Building Program to benefit area nonprofit organizations.Nonprofit organizations often confront a lack of resources for investment in management and governance. Finances, legal services, human resources, strategic planning, staff development, board retention and recruitment, and governance are critical to an organization's success. Since 2008, the Southern Tier Capacity Building Program has offered a mix of professional development and direct funding support to measurably improve the governance and management operations of qualifying 501(c)3 charitable nonprofits.

The Southern Tier Capacity Building Program features a series of free, monthly, online trainings. Coming up on April 6 is Planning for and Managing Change: Aligning Your Small Team to Achieve Your Big Vision. Next, on May 4, is Ambassadors and Advocates: Building the Relationships Needed for a Diverse, Well-Funded, and Resilient Organization. On May 25, Preparing for Leadership Succession: How to Minimize the Disruption and Leverage New Opportunities is the featured training. On June 22, registrants will learn about Creative Workplace Strategies: New Models, Shared Services, Outsourcing. Registration is available online for the upcoming trainings.

Nonprofits that have a Board Member attend any two 2022 trainings will qualify to apply for the Southern Tier Capacity Building Mini-Grant Program, as well as special assessment or strategic planning support offered directly by the NYCON. Grant awards range in amount with a maximum of $2,000 per nonprofit applicant. Grants will be awarded competitively to qualifying nonprofits with approved project activities. Grant criteria are available online. The Mini-Grant Program and special assistance are supported by United Way of Broome County, The Stewart W. and Willma C.
