NYCON Update: Federal Follow Up

February 19, 2025 –Thankfully the release of federal Executive Orders impacting nonprofits has slowed. (There was one released on Feb. 5, though it is too vague to act on at this point; see the latest in the National Council of Nonprofits tracker.)

But we are now in a time of uncertainty with federal Executive Orders, as legal actions to stop many of the orders continue and exact impact of others remains unclear.

We are continuing to talk with members, lawyers and others in the sector to bring you clarity, information and resources. To that end, we have created a new Member Exchange, a doc of resources recommended by NYCON members or staff that you may find helpful. (Thank you to NYCON’s Member Advisory Council, for this suggestion!) This downloadable PDF is available now in the Member Dashboard and will be updated as other resources are available. (Have a suggestion to add? Please share with Erica at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .)

NYCON Update: Federal Action Stopped (For Now)

January 29, 2025 – Thanks to quick legal action by the National Council of Nonprofits (NCN) and other national partner groups, the White House Executive Order to pause all federal funding nationwide has been temporarily stopped. Next, there will be a court hearing on Monday to determine what happens from here. (Read further details.)

This shows the power of our national network, and that continuing to work together is the best way for each of us to help all nonprofits. Attorneys general from 22 states have also filed suits against it, giving us further reason to hope for a positive outcome.
But until then: NYCON leadership will be participating with other state nonprofit associations in a National Council of Nonprofits call on Friday to hear the latest and learn what we and our members can do to continue to support the national effort. We will share updates out of that meeting.

In the meantime, the most helpful actions we can each take is to support the national effort by:

  • Share Your Story: The National Council of Nonprofits has created a form to share how this impacts your mission and the nonprofit sector.
  • *New* Sign-on Letter: The National Council of Nonprofits created this letter (pre-the recent White House actions) to send to Congress in February, speaking to the impact of nonprofits. That message remains ever critical, and we encourage all nonprofits to sign-on.
